Georgia is situated in the central and western parts of the South Caucasus with a total land area of 69,500 square kilometers, roughly the size as the U.S. state of South Carolina or Ireland. Its terrain is largely mountainous with the Greater Caucasus in the north and the Lesser Caucasus in the south. The largest section of the Caucasus Mountains lies in the territory of Georgia. The Kolkheti Lowland lies in the country’s western part and borders the Black Sea; the basin of the Mtkvari River is in eastern Georgia.

164 km section borders Armenia
322 km borders Azerbaijan
723 km borders the Russian Federation
252 km borders Turkey.
The Georgian section of the Black Sea coastline comprises 310 km. The lowest sea level point is the Black Sea at 0 m; the highest point is Shkhara Mountain at 5,201 m above sea level.
