Tbilisi is Georgia's capital and administrative and trade center, which is situated in the geographical center of the country. The historical seat of the ancient Georgian state, Tbilisi is located in the South Caucasus on the banks of the Mtkvari River. It is bounded by the Saguramo mountain range in the north and by the Trialeti range in the south. It is a multi-cultural city, the home of more than 100 different ethnic groups. While 80% of the population is Georgian, Tbilisi's ethnic minorities number Azeris, Ossetians, Armenians, Ukrainians, Greeks, Jews, Turks, and a recently booming Chinese population. Around 85% of Tbilisi's population professes some form of Christianity; however, Tbilisi has been known historically for its religious tolerance. In the old town in close proximity to each other, you can find an historic church, synagogue, and mosque.
Compared to the rest of Georgia, Tbilisi has far more developed infrastructure - efficient transport service, properly functioning telephone service in some districts of the city with competitive mobile phone service on top of it, and a growing sphere of business service providing consultation on legal as well as management issues. The largest share of local business and foreign investments accounts for Tbilisi.
